What to expect in therapy with me:
Does your life feel chaotic and overwhelming? Together we can work to identify ways to reduce these feelings and achieve your goals. If you are a professional or student who is finding yourself overthinking, unorganized, overwhelmed, anxious or lonely we will likely work well together. Together we find ways for you to feel more confident and energized in business, academic and social situations. We identify your goals and make a plan to get there. Tackling these things can be very challenging so I try to make sure we also include some humor and joy as well as the hard work.
Clients who most frequently report feeling connected with me are professionals or those in the university environment who are looking for someone to partner with them on their goals. I am very passionate about working with individuals and couples who are in the LGBTQ2IA+ community.
What makes me different:
I am genuine, direct, honest, and have a wicked sense of humor. I am aware that therapy can often be challenging and difficult so I also try to include some aspects of fun. I am also a passionate learner and consistently work to identify new research that may be helpful for you.
Nuts and Bolts:
I have received specialized training in working with the LGBTQ2IA+ community, trauma, depression and anxiety. I also work with couples who are struggling to communicate, experiencing intimacy challenges, or trying to find ways to assure their connection remains strong. I also work with poly or kink aligned relationships. I am extensively trained in cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, psychoanalysis (preferred lens is Eriksonian), motivational interviewing and acceptance and commitment therapy.
Clinical work is a passion that I love to share. I provide individual and group supervision for social workers in both Maryland and North Carolina who are looking to increase their understanding of the LGBTQ2IA+ community, strengthen their clinical skills, and find balance in the field of social work. I know this field is difficult and leads to burn out. I believe it is a supervisors job to help their clinicians avoid this so they can find long term contentment in the field.

What to expect in therapy with me:
I am a narrative therapist with a deeply humanist perspective. This means that I believe we are born into a world of stories that tell us who we are, what we should become, and what our relationship to the world and others should be like. We go through life, influenced by and adding to these stories, which can be a great source of strength and a source of really rigid limitations. You're probably coming to see me because your story is making you feel trapped. Or maybe your story has shattered and everything you thought you knew doesn't make sense for you anymore. My job is to help you sort through the pieces and ultimately put the pen back in your hand. You are in the driver's seat and I'm a loyal passenger who will follow you into any darkness (and light).
What makes me different:
What do you like to nerd out about? I bring my whole self into the room and I would love to see your whole self, as well. I enjoy using your language, your perspective, and your interests to help you heal. A lot of folks come in thinking they are irredeemable, unforgivable, or beyond repair. I believe the strongest antidote to that mindset is honest, intimate, empathic & nonjudgmental human connection. I believe in your ability to heal and I especially want to work with you if you think you can prove me wrong.
Nuts and bolts:
I challenge my clients as much as I provide them with comfort. I will point out what I notice along your journey and sometimes that can be uncomfortable. While discomfort can often mean growth, you always have the power to tell me when we need to change gears or when you think I haven't gotten something right. I am willing to adapt so that therapy is as beneficial as possible for you. I have experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), person-centered therapy, and parts work. I'm willing to learn something new if it will help you, and I love experimenting with art, mindfulness, somatic, or other techniques that make sense for you.

What to expect in therapy with me:
I approach therapy from a humanistic, person-centered perspective. Your work is your own, we are going to move through it together with the process being individualized to your needs. I know that the therapy process is not linear and often moves in fits and starts just like many things in life. However, I am completely dedicated to following along to assure you get where you want to go.
What makes me different:
I consider myself a jack of all hobbies and master of none, which means I totally understand that focuses can change but that doesn’t mean have given up on them. I really enjoy kayaking, camping, crafting, traveling abroad and attempting to keep my houseplants alive (low key, I also have piglets which are adorable). When I say I understand the pull to many things, I mean it. Also, I find it brings a fun and sometimes very insightful tone to our work together. I also want to hear all about the things you are interested in trying and doing, therapy comes in many forms including exploring new interests.
Nuts and Bolts:
I am a quirky therapist to work with, I will challenge you but only when you are in the place to be faced with the challenge. I have experience Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approaches in addition to the use of creative arts, experiential methods, and traditional talk therapy. I have experience working with adolescents and young adults with a passion working with LGBTQIA+ folx. My work experience includes working at a residential school, a boarding school in Rio Dulce Guatemala, and community outpatient mental health.
**I do speak Spanish but do not feel as if I possess the skills to do therapy in Spanish. If communication with stakeholders in Spanish is necessary, I am happy to do that.

What to expect in therapy with me:
Therapy can be tricky, especially opening up about your challenges to someone you don't know very well. I work hard to create a warm and open environment to allow for true rapport to be built. While I will absolutely be kind I will also always be honest in our work together. Together we will explore what areas of growth you want to make and create achievable goals so you can see the difference in your life. Teenagers and professionals who are struggling to find their path in life without being overwhelmed often report feeling connected to working with me. I also work well with veterans and couples of military leaning.
