Christine Pontes
LCSW-A
In addition to my 14 years of professional experience in mental health, I am a neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+ identifying clinician who has navigated a mood disorder and CPTSD throughout my life and career. The combination of my personal and professional experiences allows me to bring a deep level of understanding to my work and to what is needed to support meaningful, lasting change. I have extensive experience in crisis intervention and feel confident supporting clients through some of their most difficult moments. I bring authenticity into sessions — I am very much not a blank slate therapist. Additionally, social justice is central to who I am as a clinician. I actively engage in advocacy work supporting LGBTQIA+ communities, immigrants, and women's rights, and I bring this lens into my practice every day.
MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
I believe clients are the narrators of their own lives, and my role is to support them in reshaping and retelling their stories. You can expect a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can safely explore your authentic self and process your thoughts and emotions. I use a client-centered, strengths-based approach and believe that clients are the experts in their own care. I prioritize skill-building so you can feel supported and successful both in and outside of therapy. Our work together is collaborative and comfortable, while also offering gentle challenges that support growth. I believe every client's journey is unique, and that growth happens at each person's own pace. I use a trauma-informed, eclectic approach that is tailored to each individual client. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). My work most often integrates IFS and DBT, along with additional somatic techniques. I am LGBTQIA+ affirmative and practice cultural humility with every client.
